When should you work on your side hustle?
Balancing a side hustle with a full-time job isn’t easy. The biggest challenge is managing your time.
And this is only getting harder with RTO (return to office) 👀. Long commutes 2-3 days/week are back, which means less time for hustling.
So when exactly are you supposed to work on your side hustle? Here are a few ideas:
For the early-bird ☀️
Make the most of your 6-9am. Craft your morning latte and get to work!
For the evening owl 🦉
Close your corporate laptop at 5pm (or earlier), and kick off your side project work.
For the quiet quitter 👋
Have a bit more free time during the day? Hey, as long as you get your corporate work done, no judgement here! Create small time blocks within the 9-to-5 hours to grind.
For the weekend hustler 🤝
Not everyone needs the weekend for R&R. Save your side hustle work for Saturday and Sunday.
For the eager beaver 🤓
Work in sprints. Set aside ~4-5 hours every day for one week to grind on your side hustle. You’d be surprised how much you can get done in a condensed period of time.
Not sure which schedule is right for you? Try them out and see! Once you find one that works, you’ll be set for your side hustle.
The best prioritization framework
Time management really comes down to prioritization. If you can prioritize your time, you’ll get WAY more done.
There are a lot of prioritization frameworks out there, but this one never fails. Let’s jump right in.
The Eisenhower Decision Matrix
This popular prioritization technique weighs importance with urgency.
What’s the difference? Important tasks can have a lot of impact. They’re essential and need to get done at some point. Urgent tasks need to happen now. They might not make huge strides towards your goals, but they have a deadline that needs to be met.
So grab a pen and paper, or perhaps an iPad, and draw 4 quadrants.
Eisenhower Decision Matrix
The quadrants are pretty self-explanatory, except quadrant 3…
Quadrant 3: Delegate
How do you delegate when you’re running a 1-person side hustle show? One of the best ways is to outsource.
You can hire freelancers or contractors to do all of the tasks in quadrant 3 for you. Try using sites like Upwork and Contra. Plus, here’s a quick template you can steal for your job listing:
[Project Title] - Freelance [Role] Needed
Description:
We are looking to hire a talented freelancer for [specific project/task]. We are open to hiring freelancers with expertise in various fields, including [design, writing, development, etc.]. This is a great opportunity for a skilled freelancer to showcase their abilities and work on an exciting project.
Responsibilities:
- [List specific responsibilities or tasks the freelancer will be responsible for]
Requirements:
- [List the specific skills, qualifications, or experience required for the project]
Additional Information:
- [Provide any additional information about the project, such as deadlines, deliverables, or other relevant details]
How to Apply:
If you are interested in this project, please submit the following:
1. Your portfolio or samples of previous work relevant to this project
2. Your relevant experience and qualifications
Thank you for your interest and I look forward to working with you!
There are only 24 hours in the day. Take the time to prioritize and outsource so you can spend more time doing the things you love and working towards your goals.
